On 30 September 2022, Member-States of the International Telecommunication Union finished the elections for the organization's five top management posts, as well as voting for the Bureau of the Directors responsible for ITU's three core areas of work.
ITU Bureau Directors for 2023-2026:
Mario Maniewicz (Uruguay) was re-elected for a second term as the Director of the ITU Radiocommunication Bureau, which is responsible for compliance with and implementation of the Radio Regulations, harmonizing international spectrum use and satellite orbits, as well as developing related technical standards.
Mario Maniewicz was re-elected Director of the Radiocommunication Bureau by 174 votes. ITU's 181 member-states were present and voting.
Seizo Onoe (Japan) was elected as the Director of the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Bureau, which is responsible for developing international technical standards for telecommunications and ICTs (information and communications technology), involving governments, private companies and technical experts from around the world.
Seizo Onoe was elected Director of the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Bureau by 93 votes. With 181 member-states present and voting, the required majority was 90.
Cosmas Zavazava (Zimbabwe) was elected as the Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau, which is responsible for mobilizing global efforts to connect the unconnected by promoting equitable and inclusive digital development, upgrading infrastructure and capacity for developing countries, and initiatives to extend the benefits of technology to all.
Cosmas Zavazava was elected Director of the ITU Telecommunication Development Bureau by 101 votes. With 165 member-states present and voting, the required majority was 83 votes.
The term of office for each of the three elected officers is four years, starting on 1 January 2023.
