The VIII Assembly of the Inter-American Telecommunications Commission (CITEL) was held from February 16 to 18, 2022 via videoconferencing.

The meeting was attended by over 110 delegates from North and South American countries, international and regional organizations, including the RCC.

RCC representatives were represented by the Communications Administration of the Russian Federation and the RCC Executive Committee.

The Assembly decided to hand over to Colombia the chair of the Permanent Steering Committee of CITEL (COM/CITEL).

On February 18, a joint meeting of the above Committee and the Working Group on preparations for ITU Plenipotentiary Conferences was held, at which, in particular, the issue of preparations for the 2022 Plenipotentiary Conference (PP-22) in other regional organizations was discussed.

On behalf of the RCC, Evgeniy Tonkikh made an overview of the preparations.

It was also noted at the meeting that the Interregional Preparatory Meeting to prepare for PP-22 is scheduled for April 2022. CITEL representatives were also encouraged to participate as actively as possible in the upcoming World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly and the Interregional WTDC Preparatory Meeting scheduled for March 10-11, 2022.
