Grigory Borisenko, Deputy Minister of The Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media, participated in Leaders TalkX: Accelerating Global Access to Information and Knowledge in the Digital Age.
The session participants discussed the need to democratize access to information around the world and stressed the importance of developing sound policy approaches to expand access to information and legislation guaranteeing access to public data.
The discussion focuses on the need for accessible ICTs, especially for low—income groups, and the creation of public access points to provide universal Internet access to the population.
It is necessary to continue to join forces to demonopolize the global ICT industry market. The lack of own products and industries in key sectors of the economy makes developing countries unacceptably vulnerable. It is the United Nations that should play a central role in regulating ICT. Such specialized institutions as the International Telecommunication Union and the United Nations Commission on Science and Technology for Development are called upon to contribute to this, said Grigory Borisenko.
High-level representatives from Nigeria, Cambodia, Ghana, Indonesia, Somalia, Turkey and the Dominican Republic also participated in the discussion.
