
On March 14, 2025, the XVII Federal Conference “Satellite Russia 2025” was opened in Moscow.
The conference is organized by ComNews information group and is supported by the Regional Commonwealth in the field of Сommunications (RCC).
The Conference events started with a plenary discussion devoted to a wide range of issues in the field of public-private partnership development in space. It was attended by heads of Russian satellite communications operators, TV and radio companies and broadcasting network operators, representatives of regulatory bodies, satellite and space equipment manufacturers and other participants of the satellite communications market.
Alexey Borodin, RCC Director General, presented within the framework of the discussion regional approaches to the formation of a favorable environment for the development of space communications, in particular, the prospects for the development of common approaches and recommendations for the operation of NGSS constellation operators in the RCC/CIS region. In particular, he shared information on specific areas of work that the Communications Administrations and RCC Member-Companies are carrying out jointly with the CIS Interstate Council on Antimonopoly Policy, the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Member-States of the CIS and the Interstate Council on Antimonopoly Policy of the CIS.
Victor Strelets, Chairman of the ITU Radiocommunication Sector Study Group, also took part in the discussion - his candidacy for the post was proposed and approved as a common candidate from the RCC/CIS region. In his presentation he focused on ITU activities in the field of satellite systems regulation.
The program of the event, in addition to the plenary discussion, included thematic sessions, which addressed the issues of application of innovative technologies and ground equipment for the development of the market of subscriber equipment for GSO and NGSO-networks and the prospects for the introduction of satellite communications for business development from the point of view of operators and corporate customers.
In preparation for the 27th meeting of the RCC Commission on Regulation of the Usage of the Radio Frequency Spectrum and Satellite Orbits and its Working Bodies (April 7-11, Dushanbe, Tajikistan), Valery Butenko, Chairman of the Commission, Advisor to the Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation, took part in the Satellite Russia 2025 events.
Thus, the Conference participants discussed key topics of the satellite communications market, partnership opportunities for geostationary and NGSO group operators in Russia, requirements for services, speeds and orbits of satellite communications, commercial prospects of direct-to-cell (D2C) technology and others. Prospects of financing “space” projects of private companies, as well as possibilities of import substitution in satellite equipment production, current market development trends and solutions for integration of Russian satellite systems into the global communications infrastructure were also touched upon.
