On March 26, 2024 in Astana, Republic of Kazakhstan, a joint 46/46th meeting of the RCC Commission for Coordination of International Cooperation (CCIC) and the Working Group on Work with ITU under the CCIC was held in hybrid format.

The joint meeting was opened by Alexey Sergeevich Borodin, Director General of the Regional Commonwealth in the Field of Communications.

The meeting was chaired by Bella Mukharbievna Cherkesova, Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation.

The Vice-Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Orazbek Askhat Elubayevich made a welcoming speech to the meeting.

Dr. Kosmas Lakison Zavazava, Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), personally participated in the meeting.

The event was attended by representatives of the Communications Administrations of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Republic of Armenia, Republic of Belarus, Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Russian Federation, Republic of Tajikistan, Republic of Uzbekistan, as well as ITU Regional Office for the CIS region, RCC Executive Committee staff and specialized experts.

The participants of the meeting discussed many issues relevant for the coordination of cooperation between the RCC communications administrations at the international level, in particular, the preparation for the World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly, which will be held very soon - in October 2024, and the results of the ITU activities related to these preparations.

An important part of the discussions was also the outcome of the first set of meetings of the ITU Council Working Groups and Expert Groups this year, which provided guidance on preparations for the upcoming ITU Council session in June.

The meeting also reviewed information on major industry events planned between April and July this year, as well as preparations for the World Telecommunication Development Conference and related events.

In addition, the meeting discussed the process of preparing the draft Strategy for Cooperation of the CIS Member States in Building and Developing the Information Society until 2035.
